Top 5 Haunted locations! ![]() Philip Nealy/Getty Images Twenty-three percent of American adults say they've seen a ghost or felt the presence of one. Some people might be hesitant to admit that they believe in ghosts. But if you've ever heard a chilling bump in the night when you're home alone, ghosts might not be such a leap of faith. In fact, just over a third of American adults believe in ghosts. Perhaps more surprising is that 23 percent of adults polled said they'd personally seen or felt a ghost. Every October, thousands of people pay to walk through commercial haunted houses, in which costumed actors stand in for otherworldly spirits. Customers can get the adrenaline rush of scary "monsters" popping out at them for a few minutes without any risk of getting their souls stolen or becoming possessed. But real-life haunted houses are a different story. Sure, there are plenty of paranormal enthusiasts who intentionally stay in haunted hotels and hunt for ghosts. But what if ghosts found their way into your home? If the poll results mentioned above are accurate, these uninvited guests aren't such an uncommon occurrence. According to the Association for the Scientific Study of Anomalous Phenomena (ASSAP), there are some things to pay attention to if you suspect your house is haunted. You may have some brooding banshees or bothersome bogeymen on your hands if you experience the following: see apparitions, hear weird sounds, smell odd odors, feel "cold spots" within a room, notice objects that have been moved or observe your pet acting agitated [source: ASSAP]. The five places on the following pages have certainly filled that bill, becoming the world's most notorious real-life haunted houses. Hello all you ghost fans ha ha! I am the creater of this web page and would appreciate any comments, suggestions etc. The above youtube video I put together in about 4-5hours for the GHI teams book promo contest. I found out some quirks with Youtube that really makes any contest as far as going by viewers unfair. I found if - anyone were to click repeatedly on one video - in time - the video count ceases. And this does not matter who does this....in other words - to win a contest on youtube by view count may be simple with this knowlege by simply stopping all entrys in there place....not cool. But - ya know - whatever. I had fun putting this video together and hope you find it entertaining as I do ha ha. It involves a mixture of my own video and pics along with some of Barry and Dustins pics -[members of the Sci Fi show Ghost Hunters International]. The video does last about 6minutes (yes I know - tooo long). Thanks for visiting, stop back again and if you like pass this site onto your friends and there friends and their friends etc. If you have anything you would like posted on this site - your story - your site - etc. send these inquiries to the email listed below. St. Augustine, Florida. Construction of the Castillo de San Marcos, the oldest masonry fort in the continental United States, was started in 1672 by the Spanish to protect St. Augustine from the encroaching British colonies to the north. It replaced a series of nine wooden forts constructed during the first 100 years of the colony. The present floor plan is a result of "modernization" work done in the mid 1700s. Although the Castillo has served a number of nations throughout its history, it has never been taken by military force. During the 18th century, the Castillo went from Spanish control to British and back to the Spanish, all by treaty. The Spanish remained in power in Florida until the area was purchased by the United States in 1821. Called Fort Marion at this time, the Castillo was used by the US army until 1899. The Castillo was made a National Monument in 1924 and became part of the National Park system in 1933. In 1942, Congress restored the original name. The park consists of the original historic Castillo fortress itself with its attendant grounds, some 25 total acres. Throughout its history, the Castillo de San Marcos has been closely intertwined with the city of St. Augustine and the neighboring structures which served as the city's outer defenses for many years - Fort Mose to the north and Fort Matanzas to the south. The Castillo and St. Augustine serve as outstanding reminders of the might of the early Spanish empire in the New World. Fort Matanzas, located 14 miles south of St. Augustine, is also a National Monument. A ferry takes visitors across the Matanzas River to the historic fort. Scheduled Ranger Programs are offered year round. Special Living History events are also scheduled throughout the year. On most weekends, cannon and/or musket firing demonstrations are presented at the fort. There is no visitor center in the park, but museum exhibits are maintained within the casemates of the Castillo. Contact Information:
The haunted Huguenot Cemetery in St. Augustine, Florida is considered to be one of the most popular locations in the city for real ghosts and unexplained phenomenon. As a matter of fact, the hauntings of this particular location are so immense that the many ghost tours that operate throughout the Ancient City include this destination in their many stops. Millions of people visit this ghostly graveyard on an annual basis. In this article, I will be sharing with you the popular stories of this haunted cemetery, and the various things that take place at the Huguenot Cemetery in St. Augustine, Florida. In the year of 1821, the Huguenot Cemetery was developed in an effort to have a space dedicated to the individuals who did not claim to the common Catholic faith of the time. The need to have these grounds established, though, was not due to differences in religious beliefs, but to have a section for the victims of the ever-popular typhoid outbreak that was occurring at the time. As time progressed, and typhoid fever finally began to die out, several Protestant believers were buried at the cemetery. One of the most notable figures buried here was the popular Judge John B. Stickney. Shortly after the time of the Civil War, Judge Stickney traveled to live in St. Augustine with his three children. The mother of the children had recently passed away, and he was on his own to care for them. Initially, his reception in the city was not a good one. However, as time progressed, the citizens in the area took a liking to him, and he became well known and revered throughout the city. In the year of 1882, he needed to tend to business in the Washington D.C area and started on his trip. Unfortunately, he was struck down with the typhoid fever unexpectedly and passed away. He was returned to the Huguenot Cemetery and buried. Eventually, his children relocated to the area of Washington D.C and decided that it would be best to have the body exhumed and brought to the same area. It was at this time that a couple of individuals took the gold teeth from the grave, and other valuables. Today, the spirit of the judge can be found sitting in a tree, and even lingering around the graves at the haunted cemetery. It is believed that he is in search of something, and the people that have seen him firsthand say that he appears to be sad. Three individuals who all died in the same time frame also seem to haunt this St. Augustine cemetery. These individuals are named John Hull, Erastus Nye, and John Lyman. These individuals died in the year of 1835 and were all buried in a similar manner, while no one understands why, these spirits seem to be pranksters and a little on the restless side as spirits. They have been known to "touch" the living, and do other little tricks. It almost seems as if this is their way of entertaining themselves in the afterlife. As you can see, there are many occurrences at the Huguenot Cemetery in the Ancient City of St. Augustine. Several visitors have caught strange and unusual ghost videos that have lingering lights that move strangely about, numerous types of orbs, and even "rods" when there are absolutely no lights in the cemetery in the night hours. Furthermore, many have caught ghost pictures of apparitions, shadows, and other unexplained phenomenon at this strange and haunted cemetery.
